The day starts with a Fellowship Breakfast from 8:30–10AM. Holding space and a moment of reverence to kick off the day.
From 11AM, the Corner hosts The Story & Sounds of Overtown — think mini-symposium narrated by Overtown leaders and historians. The afternoon moves through two panel discussions: an Overtown History Panel moderated by Zakiyaa White, featuring Dr. Ivory Keith, Dr. Dorothy Fields (Founder of the Black Archives of South Florida), and Kamila E. We’ll follow that up with an Entrepreneurship Panel with Erica Crockton (CI Cares), Danielle Jeter (Program Manager of the OVRTWN Corner), Trina Harris (Executive Director of Touching Miami With Love), and Aitza Negrón. In between, you’ll hear from Pastor Willie Williams, a representative from a 100-year-old Black funeral home, and the Russell Family, a generational business that has multiple franchises and an innovation center in Atlanta. Black excellence will be on full display.
At 5PM, Voices From The Historic Hampton House, a documentary on the notable leaders and celebrities who graced their halls in the 50s & 60s. It will be followed by open Q&A with panelists, including former State Senator Dwight Bullard, former Tamarac Commissioner Mike Gelin, Miami Gardens Councilwoman Linda Julien, Tamarac Commissioner Krystal Patterson and host, visual storyteller and presenting producer Dr. Yvette Maureen.
When the panels wrap, the evening transitions into sounds with curated DJ sets and live music. The OVRTWN Corner will have activated a wine and beverage bar, marketplace and café open for business.
From 6–6:45PM, English Brown Winery, a Black-owned Florida winery, hosts a wine tasting featuring wine flights alongside a menu that includes oxtail pastry and collard green dip. The kind of evening you don’t want to leave early.
