If you know Overtown, you know Mama Joy.
Anitrice Jackson, known affectionately as Mama Joy, has spent the better part of two decades making sure families here don’t go without. Every Friday, on her only day off from her work as a health information specialist at Jackson Hospital, she’s shown up: with food, with clothing, with school uniforms, with her full self. Her nonprofit, Nana’s Restart, founded in 2013, has provided hundreds of uniforms and countless meals to youth in one of Miami’s oldest Black neighborhoods. She’s raised over $50,000 in grants. She plans to do this full-time when she retires.
On Saturday, May 2nd at 11am at the Children’s Village at Lotus Village, Mama Joy is hosting Pampered with Love: A Mother’s Day Brunch Experience — a celebration designed for the women of this community to be seen, honored, and genuinely taken care of for a few hours. This is not your standard brunch. This is an afternoon of relaxation, celebration and self-care. There will be live entertainment, guided relaxation meditation, mini spa and massage experiences. This is someone who knows what it costs to pour yourself into others, building a space for the women who do exactly that.
If there’s a mother, grandmother, aunt, or chosen family member in your life who deserves a morning where someone else does the giving — this is the one.
Tickets are $25 and available on Eventbrite.
